My name is Billy, but I would prefer you call me elkfoot. It may seem like a weird request, but I think it has a better ring than my given name. If it isn’t painfully obvious, I have an unnatural penchant for nostalgia. Seriously, I probably have some sort of undiagnosed mental condition. In particular, I’m drawn to my memories of the mid/late 1980s and early 1990s. Anything from this time frame will generally cause serotonin to course through my veins. I cannot explain this obsession of mine, but I figured I should put it to use. So, I started to dedicate my art to that which makes me happy.
Many of the references I make in my work are fairly specific and might go unnoticed by viewers unfamiliar with the source material. At the same time, some of my art is accessible to anyone who remembers what it’s like to be a child. I want my work to have a sense of humor because I think it is a quality missing from much contemporary art. I relish in the moments that viewers are brought to laughter from what I do. Whether it be my photographs or my blog stories, if I can make you at least crack a smile, I’ve done my job.
